Principal duties
Under the supervision of the Coordinator of the Processing Team, the incumbent
assists the Examiners by performing selected tasks related to the processing and
examination of international applications received by the International Bureau under the
Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). The incumbent performs, in particular, the following
duties:
(a) process standard documents for international applications in various languages;
(b) prepare paper and electronic files for publication;
(c) distribute work according to work distribution methodology;
(d) make proposals for improvements of processes and workflow;
(e) train and advise Processing Clerks;
(f) perform other related tasks as necessary.
This vacancy is open to applicants of either sex. Applications from
qualified women candidates are encouraged. The conditions governing
employment are defined in the Staff Regulations and Staff Rules of WIPO.
They follow generally those of the United Nations common system, and
include tax-free salary and allowances, five-day week, annual leave of 30
working days, participation in pension scheme and medical benefit
scheme. WIPO staff members may be assigned to any activity or office of
the Organization.

Qualifications required
(a) Secondary education with relevant diploma or equivalent educational
background.
(b) Excellent knowledge of Portuguese; excellent knowledge of English
or French and good knowledge of the other language.
(c) Good knowledge of the PCT and the Regulations thereunder.
(d) At least three years of experience in formalities processing of patent
applications, preferably PCT applications.
(e) Ability to use computer-assisted systems and to work in an electronic
environment.
(f) Proven ability to work under pressure according to pre-defined
deadlines in an organized and logical manner while maintaining
meticulous attention to detail.
(g) Very good communication skills with marked sense of team work and
shared responsibility.
(h) Ability to draft standard correspondence in English or French.
Age limit: less than age 55 at the date on which the appointment takes
effect.
Medical examination: initial appointment is subject to a satisfactory
medical examination.
The position is graded at level G.5. The net base salary per annum, in Swiss francs, is 73,865 minimum, 98,225 maximum (2,436 annual increment). Appointments
from outside the United Nations common system are normally at step 1 of the grade. Annual increments are subject to satisfactory service. The staff member's
contribution to the pension fund represents approximately 10% of the above amounts.
Dependency allowances: 6,526 Swiss francs per year for dependent spouse; 5,025 Swiss francs per year for each dependent child.
Language allowance: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese, Russian and Spanish: 4,788 Swiss francs per year for two of these languages, and 3,192
Swiss francs per year for one of them. The allowance is not payable for the mother tongue or the main working language of the staff member. The grant of this
allowance is subject to examination. The Organization reserves the right to make an appointment at a grade lower than that advertised.
