RESEARCH ASSISTANT
Interdisciplinary and comparative Law Research Centre (Laboratorio Interdisciplinare Diritti e Regole,
Lider-Lab) at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna PISA (www.sssup.it), FACULTY OF LAW: for 12 months
(about 18.700 €/year), tenable from January 2009, or as soon as possible thereafter.
REQUIREMENTS
Good academic qualifications in Law, preferably with a higher degree and/or legal practice experience;
sound knowledge of private law and/or European law; good research and writing skills; the ability to work
independently, to assist in the preparation of legal materials and to work under time constraints. EU
citizenship.
DUTIES
Be the principal research assistant to the Director of the Lider-Lab in Pisa (see Lider-Lab website:
www.lider-lab.eu for more information or contact a.nucci@sssup.it); to undertake research, editing and
preparation of publications concerning comparative and European private law issues (eg. tort, information
society, European law harmonization, consumer protection, precautionary principle, environmental
damages).
ABOUT THE LIDER-LAB
The International and Comparative Law Research Laboratory embodies a quite long tradition of empirical
studies, training and counselling in the common field of private and comparative law. Our international and
comparative research laboratory covers most fields in tort, contract, property and family law as well as legal
issues of the information society, both at the national and international level.
Our methodological approach is essentially comparative and interdisciplinary and it is related to empirical
work and analysis. Accordingly, our primary mission is to study private law as a cornerstone of
contemporary regulation in order to promote the protection and autonomy of individuals within the private
sphere. Sometimes also interaction between individuals and public and private entities are included. Pursuing
these aims, after several years of actual work we have formalised the Lab, consolidating ongoing research
project in the common field of the private and comparative law that have been undertaken under the auspices
of the European Science Foundation, the European Commission, the Italian Ministry of Science and
Research, the Italian National Council of Research, the National Association of Insurance Companies
(ANIA), the National Agency controlling the Insurance Market (ISVAP) and several other private and public
entities and institutions.
Young and senior researchers at the Lider-Lab come presently from several European and not European
countries.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants should have a J.D. or equivalent degree, and experience in research assistantship. Fluency in
written and spoken English (though not a prerequisite mother tongue English is a great advantage); Italian
language skills, though appreciated, is NOT a prerequisite.
